The first non-native settlers to Plymouth Township, in the Wyoming Valley of northeastern Pennsylvania, began to arrive about 1768 from Connecticut. The list of the Plymouth residents in 1783 includes Noah Allen — relation to Samuel Allen unknown. Three factors prompted a higher flow of setters to this valley by the mid-1780s: cessation of attacks by native Americans, the ending of Tory and British attacks during the Revolutionary War, and the resolution of the Third Pennamite-Yankee War.(9) That's when Samuel Allen moved his family to Plymouth in the Wyoming Valley. In 1796 Samuel Allen and his three oldest sons were included in a tax list for Plymouth.(10)

Overview
Elias Allen managed to criss-cross the width of what was the United States during his lifetime. Born in Connecticut, Elias Allen moved to the Wyoming Valley of northeastern Pennsylvania between the mid 1780s and 1796. In 1809 a marriage license puts Elias in Roane County, Tennessee. However, Allen does not live in that Tennessee county until 1811, and he leaves that county by 1815. By 1820 Elias was head of a househould in Windham, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. It seems that Elias may have moved to Alabama in the mid-1820, since census records list Alabama as place of birth for some of his children. In 1828 Elias moved to the frontier of southwestern Arkansas Territory. He remained in Clark County, Arkansas, for the rest of his life.
Elias' first marriage from about 1790 to some time before 1809, when Elias was married to Sally Holly. It is may be difficult to know an exact number of children for Elias, due to limited information about children in census records. Assuming all children in Elias Allen households in the various census years are his children, and not those of relatives, then Elias fathered a child every few years of his life, from his mid-20s into his mid-60s: eight children by his first wife, seven by his second wife.
Pennsylvania
In 1796 the tax list for Plymouth Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, includes Elias Allen.
Tennessee
In 1813 E. T. Allen appears in Roane County land surveys conducted for John Sharp, a neighbor of class="h-quote"Rebecca Holly:
- John Sharp. S#727 4-4-1813. E#139 8-31-1807. 50 acres on north side of Clinch River on first bend above mouth of Emerys River where said Sharp now lives. Beginning corner of his 30-acre survey. SCC: Allen Snead, E. T. Allen. Recorded 6-2-1813. Lifted 7-19-1815 by Mrs Sharp.
- John Sharp. S#728 4-4-1813. E#1376 11-16-1812. 30 acres on north side of Clinch River, corner to Rebecca Holley's 20 acres...along the Widow Holley's line. SCC: Allen Snead, E. T. Allen. Recorded 6-3-1813. Lifted 7-19-1815 by Mrs Sharp.
In 1814 Elias T. Allen paid taxes on 80 acres on the Clinch River in that county. In 1815 he was on the tax list but had no land. Tax records after 1815 fail to show property or tax liability for Elias T. Allen.

1790 Federal Census, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania
This census does not include a household for Elias Allen, but does include households for his father, Samuel Allen (which included three males over age 16). That census for Luzerne County also lists households for David Allen (Elias' older brother), Isaac Allen, John Allen, Jesse Allen, and Stephen Allen (Elias' younger brother).

- The only entry for "Elias Allen" in this census over the entire United States is from Marion District, South Carolina; that Elias Allen is from another Allen line.
- Elias Allen was not residing in the household of his father-in-law, William Halley. The 1810 listing for William Halley in Bedford County, Virginia, includes only 1 male and 1 female, both over age 45.
- Curiously, a listing in the Bedford County, Virginia, census of 1810, page 61, does include a household headed by "Sally Allen". This seems to be Sally Holly Allen, without Elias Allen. The young boys would be from Elias' first marriage. The older female may be an older sister to Sally.

Some Allen trees indicate that Almarine's son and daughter, Elias T. Allen and Sarah Allen, match the Elias Allen and Sarah Allen mentioned in the 1840 will of Elias T. Allen (b. 1764). However, when that will was executed, Almarine's daughter, Sarah, was not yet born. Almarine's son, Elias T. Allen, would have been only a few months old.

"It took awhile to find Leaner after A.H. Hughes' death. She married John Adams 6/26/1876. She lied on her marriage certificate to John Perry Adams. Said she was 35 years old and had to be 46 years old. Wasn't sure this was our Leaner until I found her in the 1900 census report living with her daughter Sally Nichols under the name Leanah Adams.
